Ali creates geometric, sculptural, contemporary, etched and patinated metalwork. Some of the works are 3D, others are wall art; all are handmade using copper, brass or silver, often using gold leaf to enhance areas of the pieces. She went back to college as a mature student to fulfil a burning passion to study Art, left college in June 2006 with a distinction from Herefordshire college of Art and Design. geometric metal structures, and sculptural wall hangings
'I love working with copper, brass and silver for their visual and expressive qualities, also the forgiving nature of the metal. I enjoy the endless variety of surface finishes and patination which can be achieved by etching, forging and soldering. The physical creating and working in a repetitive nature is truly pleasing to me, it can be both therapeutic and productive, as i find room for thought'.
Inspiration for my work comes mainly from contemporary architecture. It's the stark clean lines found in architecture, coupled with the strength and beauty of the geometry, which captivates and inspires me, that along with the replication, symmetry and order found in plant structure.
